"Bridges are to Cross" A traditional art lesson inspired by the artist Giles Laroche
Grade 4
Fourth grade students talked about the meaning of bridges and why they are built. They specifically looked at Giles Laroche's book titled "Bridges are to Cross" and they examined the amazing cut-paper relief work that was so intricately executed by this artist. Students observed how the bridges were designed with the use of layering paper of various sizes.
This was a great art lesson with the student's working with scissors as a pencil. The side view bridge was designed against a folded piece of paper to give it a balanced symmetrical look.
Some students used their iPad and worked in layers with the Sketchbook Pro app. They designed their bridge with the symmetrical tool and used text to sign their name.
Also added:
"Monochromatic Paintings" Grade 3
"Action Figures" Grade 2
"Scratch-Art Still-Life" Grade 1
"Clever Creatures Inspired by Joan Miro" Kindergarten
