Here is a photo of my acrylic paintings titled: "Hye Hands" series. After traveling through Armenia during the summer of 2008 I wanted to depict people from everyday life there. In particular these are a few workers along the road side, including bread makers, musicians and kids playing throughout market areas. While painting these scenes, I can remember feeling their compassion for one another. Please enjoy these paintings and imagine hearing the music, tasting the delight and seeing the fibers of their lifestyle. Week 1:
Art classes began first thing this past Wednesday morning and it all started with seating students according to a specific seating arrangement. While at their tables I asked them to take the color that represented their table and think of an object that matched it. It had to have meaning specifically to them. Most students thought of particular food that they liked, others came up with things in their bedroom or an article of clothing that they were wearing. At the end of their art period they all tried to remember what each classmate had said while lining up! Safety rules, a tour through the room, and a mini art project then took place. For the third and fourth graders they went through an exercise of “What does art mean to me?” On a variety of colorful post-it notes they each briefly wrote their thoughts down and then posted it up on the bulletin board. Here are some examples of what they came up with: “What does art mean to me?” -”Using my imagination” Kallen 3M -”Beautiful creations, fun & wonderful” Emma 3M -”Colors of happiness” Floria 3C -”A squiggly line that goes everywhere you go” Molly 3C -”Art is life, it is beautiful & and I think Mrs. Kalajian is the only person to teach it!” Molly 3Le -“Art makes me feel good about myself” Abe 3Le -”Art means color. And if color weren’t in this world the earth would be bland. Art means something to do besides electronics. Art means a lot to me & it is my favorite hobby.” Victoria 3Le -”Art means painting, modeling & fun” Veikko 3L -”To put what you are thinking on a sheet of paper” Rory 3L -”Art is a form of expression” Kadin 4E -“Art means to try new things” Millie 4M -”Art means drawing, painting & new things” Daniel 4M |
